-to mend, to fix o to repair?-
- -to mend, to fix o to repair?-
- Nota d'uso
I verbi “to mend”, “to fix” e “to repair”, pur significando tutti riparare, aggiustare, appartengono a registri diversi. “To mend” è usato in ambito familiare, si avvicina all'italiano mettere a posto ed è tradizionalmente associato ai vestiti: Mi ha aggiustato la gonna, she mended my skirt; sebbene venga usato anche in altri contesti: Ho messo a posto l'asse del pavimento, I mended the floorboard. “To repair” appartiene a un registro più alto e viene usato soprattutto in relazione a riparazioni tecniche: Il tecnico riparerà il computer, the technician will repair your computer. “To fix”, infine, è l'alternativa più neutra e, forse, la più usata: Ha sistemato la caldaia, he fixed the boiler (anche se he repaired the boiler sarebbe ugualmente corretto).
